Kenneth J. Wasnie
February 18, 1937 - - - May 22, 2002

Ken, 64, Baxter, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. He was born June 12, 1937, in Brainerd to Nicholas and Marie (Gaboury) Wasnie. He was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School and attended the University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University, earning a degree in engineering. He was a civil engineer for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

He married Virginia "Genny" Gendron on Oct. 27, 1962, in Brainerd. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He received a heart transplant at the University of Minnesota in 1984. Wasnie, who was a member of the 1954 state championship basketball team, was inducted into the Brainerd High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Sheila Haverkamp, Baxter, Ranae Hart, Baxter, Angela Kruchten, Baxter, and Dawn Hines, Nisswa; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Father Blane Wasnie, OSB, Collegeville; and a sister, Suzanne Hoff, Baxter. His parents; two sons, Jonathan and Michael; a brother, Laurence; and an infant sister, died earlier.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Blane Wasnie and Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Baxter Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today with rosary at 4 p.m. and parish prayers at 7 p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.
